What is an emergency?
If you or someone you are with is very badly injured or very unwell it is an emergency and you will need to call 999.
How do you know if someone is very unwell or badly hurt?
Some examples may be if someone is:
Unconscious - this means they are not awake and you cannot wake them up or get them to move.
Struggling to breathe - they may be making wheezing sounds.
Not breathing - they may look like they are asleep but you can check and see if their chest moves up and down.
Has chest pains - they may be able to tell you or may hold on to their chest.
Had a car accident and cannot move or they may be bleeding a lot.
