Foundation Trust membership

Become a member and have your say

If you’d like to have a say in how your local ambulance service is run, joining the NEAS Foundation Trust is a great way to share your opinions. We value feedback and ideas from anyone living in the North East and our wish is to develop an active membership across the region.

Who can be a member

Membership is free and open to two groups of people:

  • Members of the public who are over 16 years old and live in the North East.
  • Members of staff who are on a permanent contract or a contract of at least 12 months and they’ve worked for the Trust for 12 months. All eligible staff become members automatically, unless they specify otherwise.

There may be individuals who are not be permitted to join, such as:

  • Any troublesome individual known to NEAS.
  • Anyone known to have threatened, harassed, harmed or abused NHS staff, patients or visitors.
  • Members of staff who have submitted their notice of resignation (although they could apply to be public members if eligible).

Foundation Trust Constituencies

There are four constituencies which match the former operating divisions of the ambulance Trust. Public members will automatically join the constituency in which they live, and they can vote for their governor to represent them on the Council of Governors.

The four constituencies are:

  • North of Tyne - Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland and North Tyneside.
  • South of Tyne - Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
  • Durham - County Durham and Darlington.
  • Teesside - Hartlepool, Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.
